DVS stands for Digital Vinyl System. It is a DJ system that allows users to control digital audio files stored on a computer by using a turntable and timecode vinyl.
Timecode vinyl does not contain recorded music. Instead, it contains a continuous timecode signal that communicates playback speed, direction, and stylus position.
DVS software such as Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro, and rekordbox DJ analyzes this timecode signal and reflects the turntable’s movements onto digital audio in real time.
Because DVS relies on the accurate reproduction of the timecode signal, unstable tracking can lead to dropouts, latency, or malfunction, significantly affecting performance. While the appearance and hands-on feel remain identical to traditional analog DJing, the actual sound being played comes from digital audio files on a computer
