WHERE YOU CAN LISTEN TO JICO SOUND #1

3-minute walk from East exit of JR Kanda station, “Root down” is there with a dignified presence.

The barkeeper, Mr. Toru Yoshikawa says “I make the space thinking how I feel if I were the customer.”

He selects the records from the day of his mood and atmosphere. His collection is Jazz, Blues, Soul and Latin American records.(He has more than 5,000 Jazz records!)

The lyric of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”
Recommended drinks are “KANDA Highball” and “Funky Ginger”

Mr. Yoshikawa says “I want people who always listen to digital data to come. When I open this bar and play the record, I was moved to tears by the sound.”

The turntable is DENON DP-500M, vacuum amplifier is MODEL2000MKⅡ by otono-edison (Miyajima laboratory). Speakers are Prominent also by edison. The cartridge is SHURE MM cartridge. Mr. Yoshikawa says “MM is suitable for rough beat music.”

We asked him the impression of JICO.
“I have bought the replacement stylus for SHURE V15 TypeⅢ before, but it broke soon. Then the customer told me about JICO. I bought SAS series stylus from the first. I have about 4 spares. I think it’s better than original one in my opinion.”

Cafe & Bar「Root Down」
“Root Down” was named after Jimmy Smith’s record Mr. Yoshikawa bought for the first time in his elementary schooldays.
